Via Matteotti, Sanremo's shopping street
The lively and pulsing heart of Sanremo has always been Via Matteotti since the time of the Belle Époque when, with the name of Via Vittorio (in honour of the first king of Italy), it was the centre of the commercial life of the city.
Via Matteotti, just a few minutes from the Hotel de Paris, is a completely pedestrianized street that houses the most beautiful clothing, accessories and jewellery stores, perfumeries, bars...
In addition to the wonderful shops Via Matteotti hosts two cinemas, the Central cinema and the Ariston Theatre, immediately after which the promenade begins with the plaques with the songs and winners of the Sanremo Festival from 1951 to 2017. At the intersection with Via Escoffier we find also the statue of Mike Bongiorno, the historic presenter who presided over 11 editions.
