Piazza Bresca
Discover the maritime heart of Sanremo in the characteristic Piazza Bresca
A few steps from the old port of Sanremo, right in the centre, we find Piazza Bresca, with its characteristic palm trees and orange trees.
The location near the port is particularly favourable for restaurants in the area that are stocked with fresh fish every morning: lovers of good food will find the ideal stop to taste seafood specialities in the restaurants of Piazza Bresca.
Initially named Piazza dei Missionari, in memory of a small community residing there with a church and convent, it was later dedicated to the Bresca family, famous for having won the supply of palm trees to the Vatican on the occasion of the annual liturgical feast preceding Easter . Legend has it that Captain Bresca proved to be fundamental in the success of raising the great Egyptian obelisk in St. Peter's Square and for this he was rewarded by Pope Sixtus V.
